Environment

It´s very important to follow these rules set by the Balearic General Direction for the Natural Environment, Environmental Education and Climate Change.

Due to infection risk by Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis fungus and in order to prevent it, some caution measures must be taken when canyoning.

  1. Before slopping down any canyon, you must make sure the equipment is completely dry when preparing it at home.
  2. After finishing canyon slopping, used equipment must be carefully washed with soap and water, and let dry for 48 hours minimum. Please notice that Mallorca humidity is always high, so more time may be necessary in autumn and winter.
  3. Other products can be used instead of soap, like Virkon or Halamid, in order to desinfect equipment.
  4. Do not make two consecutive canyon slopping unless entire equipment has been desinfected and dried as required.

These caution rules also must be taken when visiting another canyoning area outside Majorca island, and should be observed both by locals returning from trip as well for those who visit the island to play the sport.

We know that many canyoning enthusiasts visit the island for only a few days and want to make more than one slopping consecutively. For these cases, we have developed a series of tables which reflect the right and recommended combinations for canyoning practice not involving the transmission of the fungus that affects ferreret, local majorca frog. The examples shown bellow refer to three consecutive days of sloppings. These tables are of vital importance and compliance in events such as the meeting organized by Balearik and we strongly urge all participants for observance.

It´s also very important not to make large groups according to the canyon characteristics, from an environmental standpoint. For this reason we have set:

  • Up to 7 people groups in Mortitx, Gorg Blau-Sa Fosca, Biniaraix, Na Mora, Pareis.
  • Up to 12 people groups in Coanegra, Llli, Vistamar, S’Esmolar, Ses Ólibes, Son Gallard.

We stress that the indicated group sizes are adequate from the point of view of environmental protection. To this information, we must add security criteria of canyon slopping, such as the characteristics of the group, the type of stream, conditions, etc..
